The Somali Police Force (SPF) marked its 82nd Anniversary with a high-level national ceremony that placed strong emphasis on operational performance, institutional reform, and leadership-driven professionalism under the stewardship of Police Commissioner General Asad Osman Abdullahi.
Held at the General Kaahiye Police Training Academy in Mogadishu and conducted at Presidential level, the ceremony reflected the growing confidence of the state and the public in the Somali Police Force as a central pillar of internal security, public order, and democratic governance.
Police Performance in 2025

Addressing the occasion, General Asad underscored the tangible security gains delivered by the Somali Police Force throughout 2025, describing the year as a period of “measurable operational progress and strengthened institutional discipline.”
Among the key achievements highlighted were:
– Successful security coverage of voter registration centers, ensuring safe and orderly civic participation
– Protection of public institutions and critical infrastructure in Mogadishu and key regions
– Sustained security operations aimed at preventing and mitigating security threats
– Expanded professional training programs, including election security, command preparedness, and community policing
– Rehabilitation and upgrading of police facilities, reinforcing operational readiness and service delivery
“These achievements are not incidental,” General Asad noted. “They are the result of structured reforms, continuous training, and the commitment of officers who understand that policing is a public trust.”
Leadership and National Responsibility

The ceremony was attended by H.E. the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, senior government leaders, members of parliament, chiefs of the armed forces and intelligence services, regional and municipal authorities, as well as diplomatic missions and international partners. Their presence reaffirmed the constitutional mandate and national responsibility entrusted to the Somali Police Force.
General Asad reaffirmed the Force’s full operational readiness to secure the upcoming national elections based on the principle of one person, one vote, emphasizing that neutrality, accountability, and respect for citizens’ rights remain non-negotiable standards.
“Our duty is clear,” he stated. “To secure the democratic process, maintain public order, and serve the Somali people with professionalism and integrity—without fear or favor.”
Discipline, Unity, and National Presence

The anniversary program featured coordinated police formations, honor guards, and ceremonial displays that reflected the Force’s discipline and institutional cohesion. Parallel commemorations held across several regions further demonstrated the Somali Police Force’s nationwide presence and unity under a single command and national vision.
Looking Ahead

As the Somali Police Force enters its 83rd year, General Asad emphasized that reform and professionalization will remain at the center of the institution’s agenda.
“The Somali Police Force will continue to modernize, strengthen accountability, and build public trust,” he said. “Our mission is to remain a reliable guarantor of security, stability, and democratic progress for Somalia.”
